Salesforce Objects,Fields, Data Types and Relationships

Objects

Objects are like database tables that allow us to store specific data related to our Application. If classroom is considered as an application,  the objects under it would be  blackboard, books, chair, table, duster, eraser etc...

Objects are of two types, Standard objects and Custom Objects.

Standard Objects - Objects which are default provided by Salesforce are called Standard Objects.(Account, Contact, Opportunities, Quote, Contract, Campaign, Case, Lead, Task, etc...)

Custom Objects - Objects which are created by us are called custom objects. We create them to fulfill our purpose. They are the heart of our application. (Chair, Blackboard, Globe, etc...)

Fields

Fields are used to granularly track your data. For example you have created an object Housing Society, under which you must have a text field to add flat number in your society, a number field for storing the square feet related to this flat, a currency field to track the price of the flat, etc.

Custom fields are created to provide detailed description of your object whether it is custom object or standard object.

How to create a Custom Object

Data Types while creating fields for a custom object :

Autonumber has system generated sequence, lookup is to link two objects, Master-detail relationship is to link a Parent object and a child object. when creating a child object , this field is a must on the child's record.

Date to mention the date of the record, Currency to define the currency, Checkbox to define if its true or false, Text to write text on the record, Text Area to define large chunk of text, Rich text Area to add something which is rich of images and text and Url to define a valid link.
